| 4th International Conference on Open Source Systems | |
|
Over the past decade, the Open Source Software (OSS) phenomenon has had a global impact on the way organisations and individuals create, distribute, acquire and use software and software-based services. OSS has challenged the conventional wisdom of the software engineering and software business communities, has been instrumental for educators and researchers, and has become an important aspect of e-government and information society initiatives. OSS is a complex phenomenon and requires a interdisciplinary understanding of its engineering, technical, economic, legal and socio-cultural dynamics.
The goal of OSS 2008 is to provide an international forum where a diverse community of professionals from academia, industry and public administration can come together to share research findings and practical experiences. The conference is also meant to provide information and education to practitioners, identify directions for further research, and to be an ongoing platform for technology transfer

| Seminar: Combining the Advantages of Product Lines and Open Source | |
|
Using open source software appears to be a profitable way to obtain good software. This is a result of several of its properties, ranging from effective feedback to the openness of the source. At a first glance open source and product line practices are conflicting.
This seminar aimed at finding ways to overcome these conflicting practices and how to profit from both approaches. Product line engineering can improve in agility and fast feedback improving the quality of the result. Open source software development can profit for variability management techniques, developed in product line engineering to improve the efficiency to deal with a diversity of configurations.

| ITEA 2 Call 3 Project Outline preparation meeting | |
|
The 3rd Call for Projects of ITEA 2 opened on 21 February 2008.
In order to help prepare a Project Outline, locate potential partners, join existing consortia or find out more about the specifics of this Call, ITEA 2 organised a two-day Project Outline preparation meeting, 21-22 February 2008 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Participation was in principle open to all those with an interest in our 3rd Call but limited to organisations with a clear contribution to the project generation, such as those who already have a concrete project idea, or those who are engaged in technologies or product developments that may be relevant to other project ideas.
During the meeting the participants had the possibility to present their project idea(s) in a poster session. After this session the project ideas were grouped and discussed in several workgroup sessions, where initial projects were defined.
The meeting was visited by 190 participants, representing 47 universities and research institutes, 35 SMEs and 30 large companies (40 participants from France, 14 from Germany, 44 from Spain, 19 from Belgium, 30 from Finland, 14 from the Netherlands, 1 from Israel, 1 from Italy, 4 from Ireland, 3 from Greece, 2 from Luxembourg, 2 from Norway, 1 from Romania, 1 from Sweden, 1 from the UK, 1 from South Korea, 2 from Lithuania and 10 from Turkey).
The deadline for Project Outlines is: 11 April 2008.

| Informal ARTEMIS Brokerage Event | |
|
ARTEMIS-JU (Joint Undertaking) is a Joint Technology Initiative with a ‘public private partnership’ between the European Commission, the participating Member States*, and ARTEMISIA - the association for R&D actors in the field of ARTEMIS.
ARTEMIS-JU is a new R&D programme that will exist in parallel to the FP7, EUREKA and National programmes and will launch a call for project proposals every year. We expect that the first call will be launched in April 2008. For the first call a shorter procedure will be followed with only the Full Project Proposal (FPP) phase without the Project Outline (PO) phase in advance, making it possible that selected projects could possibly start in the fourth quarter of 2008.
In order to help to prepare potential project proposers/consortia for the FPP-only procedure of the ARTEMIS-JU call in 2008 ARTEMISIA organised a two-days informal ’ARTEMIS Brokerage Event’.
